NATIONAL DIALOGUE ON INCORPORATING LIGHTING, APPLIANCES, AND SOLAR ELECTRIC

SYSTEMS INTO THE RATING SCORE

There has long been interest in factoring the contributions of energy efficient lighting and appliances and photovoltaic systems into the rating score. RESNET sees this issue as important to the residential energy efficiency industry in that if the rating can account for these technologies, then it will lead to the ability to finance them in the mortgage. To accomplish this goal it will be necessary to modify the National Home Energy Rating Technical Guidelines. There also must be broad industry acceptance of this change. To provide the home energy rating industry information on this subject RESNET is facilitating an industry dialogue on the issue. To begin the dialogue, RESNET will be hosting a session on the topic at the 2002 RESNET Conference, "Turn on the Lights and Let the Sun Shine In - Integrating Lighting, Appliances, and Renewable Sources in Home Energy Ratings." Two independent studies have been written in the subject by Arhcitectural Energy Corporation and Conservation Services and the Florida Solar Energy Center. A page on the issue has been posted on RESNET's web site. The page includes the two studies. Go to www.natresnet.org/dialogue/default.htm
